Well as most of the nation knows, Clemson definitely got it handed to them a fews ago by Florida State in Death Valley. Pretty much for the beginning the Tigers were doomed as on the opening drive we fumbled the ball resulting in one of 6 turnovers; 4 fumbles and 2 interceptions. You will most certainly lose to any opponent with that many turnovers, let alone to a now ranked No.2 team. Like I told everyone heading into this game, someone has to lose I just hope it is not us. If we do lose, hats off to Florida State for a hard fought win, we just can't get blown out. As it turns out, that is exactly what happened as the Tiger had more points scored on them than in any game in Memorial Stadium history with a score of 51-14. As a lifelong Tiger fan that fact really hurt, almost as much as the loss itself on national television, with ESPN's College Game Day on campus, and Bill Murray (whose is a current student and daughter a Clemson graduate) as the celebrity guest picker. Nevertheless, the last thing you can do is give up, stop pulling for them, tuck your tail between your legs, and let it effect you for the remainder of the season.
Looking forward, Clemson has (somewhat) bounced back and are starting to find their form again. Since that crucial loss at home we have won the following two games, both of which were on the road. We first headed up to Maryland and handed the Terps a 40-27 loss (14 points of which should not have happened) and then we traveled to Virginia and defeated the Cavaliers smoothly with a 59-10 victory in which our defense did practically everything perfect and our offense found its rhythm again, much like we saw in the LSU game last season and the season opener this year against then 5th ranked Georgia. We are off this week for what is most likely a much needed rest from game play. It is hopefully the perfect opportunity for the Tigers to continue to regroup, focus on the upcoming Thursday night home game against a much better Georgia Tech, and make the necessary adjustments to finish out the season with 3 more wins.
It is easy to look ahead to the final game of the season when the Tigers make the journey down to Columbia to play arch rival South Carolina in what has become knows as the Palmetto State Bowl. The Gamecocks have won the last four and are now taunting Clemson fans with the phrase, "Fear the thumb." The Gamecocks have fallen in the rankings and are currently sitting at No.12, seven places behind the Tigers. They were ranked No.6 when they lost 41-30 at No.11 Georgia and were ranked No.11 when they lost at unranked Tennessee. However, they bounced back big when they beat No.5 Missouri 27-24 in overtime with a big time 2nd half comeback where they outscored the Tigers 27 to 7 ranked at No.21. They then beat Mississippi State 34-16 and now, like Clemson, have a bye week before hosting the Florida Gators on November 16th. They then host, just like Clemson, a very low ranked opponent in Coastal Carolina, and end their season with a toss up against Clemson.
If Clemson can stay undefeated for the remainder of the season we will most definitely get a major BCS Bowl bid (most likely a return trip to Miami to possible play Missouri in the Orange Bowl). If we lost to either Georgia Tech or South Carolina, we will most likely be back in Atlanta to play a team like Ole Miss in the Chick-fil-A Bowl or a team like Louisville in the Russell Athletic bowl held in Orlando. With the leaking news of Vic Beasley leaving after this season for the NFL and also most likely using star wide receive Sammy Watkins the Tigers need to finish strong and show everyone that we are back as National title contenders for many years to come.
And as always, "Go Tigers!!!"
